How to calculate crypto liquidation price
It is the mark at which the exchange closes an isolated futures position so your loss does not run past posted margin plus a small cushion. It is not your stop. Your stop is an order you place. Liquidation is the venue protecting itself.
Isolated USDT-M liquidation is often estimated as entry × (1 − 1/leverage + the venue's maintenance rate) for a long, and the mirror for a short. At $50,000 Bitcoin, 10×, and a 0.40% Binance-style cushion, a long wipes out near $45,200 — about 9.6% below entry, not a clean 10%. The missing slice is the cushion the venue keeps. Bybit presets often sit nearer 0.55%, which pulls liquidation a little closer. Extra isolated margin is economically lower leverage: divide trade size by cash posted and re-run. Last price is not always mark price, and a stop sitting beyond liquidation is a wish, not a plan. This page does not model the rest of a cross-margin wallet, or funding that bleeds equity overnight.

Why exchange liquidation prices differ
Maintenance rates are not identical. Binance and OKX often sit near 0.4% on small size; Bybit is often nearer 0.55%. Your actual tier can be worse on large size. Confirm on the venue before you size up. Generic 0.5% is a middle guess when you are not sure.
